Most SEOs rate using keywords in your title tag as one of the most important ranking factors. In this post I’m questioning to what extent placing your target keywords in your page title really does have an influence on your search engine rankings. I’ll argue that optimising your title tags is really important – but for users, click through and conversions, rather than for ranking.

Earlier today I added Google adsense adverts to my website and I couldn’t help but notice this advert flash up: “You know who needs a haircut? People searching for a haircut”. That’s why Google ads work, the advert claims. In fact, this advert wasn’t just reserved for their online Adsense banners.
